About us

ACT Race and Fitness Walking Club holds summer and winter programs for all ages and abilities. Whether you want to compete internationally or just keep fit, we would love to have you join our club. Our youngest members are 5 and our eldest into their 90s.

Through the summer we have judged race walks every Thursday evening at the Masters Athletics Meet at Woden athletics track, the race is usually at 6.30pm, where Little Athletes are welcome. There is a token entry fee for junior competitors. In the winter we rotate through different locations on ACT cycle paths for our Road Walking season. There is a selection of distances to choose from at each event to suit all ages and abilities. Walkers collect points for season awards competitions.

Racewalkers must conform to the World Athletics racewalking rules, whereas fitness walkers must only maintain contact with the ground. Australia has won more Olympic medals in racewalking than any other athletics discipline. Little Athletics provides walking events at all their championships, including ACT Little Athletics Championships and ALAC. Athletics in the ACT has a strong history of success at National Championships and Masters events. We have a number of current Australian champions in our membership across Little Athletics, Senior Athletics and Masters. We have coaches available if you’d like to do more formal training.

Each June we host Australia’s biggest Racewalking carnival at Stromlo Forest Park, with walkers descending on Canberra from all over Australia. Athletics in the ACT also have walking events throughout the year and championships are judged.
